I am a fan of hillwalkers who take the time and trouble to review gear. It is a process which, particularly in these days of internet retail, is invaluable. Whilst I enjoy reading reviews in publications such as Trail and TGO, I find that reader reviews are infinitely more informative and comprehensive. As a consequence, I will from time to time, add my own reviews of kit that I have purchased and used.

I also find that a good deal of the kit I am persuaded to buy is foreign - Haglöfs, Western Mountaineering, Big Agnes and Gossamer Gear are clear favourites of mine, but I have looked longingly at Mountain Laurel Designs, Bozeman Mountain Works and Tarptents to name a few. This does have the disadvantage that they are not always widely available in the UK and reviews become even more important given the cost of importing items into the UK.

There are styles to gear reviews and I very much admire those that are detailed and instructional. It should be easy to locate all kit and gear reviews through the offices of the labels list on this blog. Feel free to comment on reviews and add as you go through - that's what they are there for!
